Ground water as heat source

In terms of the amount of energy supplied, ground water is the best heat source. Because ground water maintains a relatively high temperature even in winter. This enables water-to-water heat pumps to achieve high COPs.

Ground water has to be tapped with extraction and absorption wells, which are subject to authorisation. Moreover, a test drilling must confirm adherence to the required limit values for water quality.

  • Minor temperature fluctuations of the ground water throughout the year (+7 to +12 °C)
  • Therefore almost constant heat output throughout the year
  • Almost constant COP, independent of external temperatures
  • No defrosting of the evaporator necessary
  • High annual performance factor
  • Utilisation of ground water requires extraction and absorption wells
  • Ground water utilisation is subject to authorisation by local water authorities.
